i started my bookshop.org shop almost exactly a year ago on 7/16/24 both as a way to make money post-layoff and as a first step towards building a physical bookshop (or bookmobile, because let’s be honest about los angeles rent prices). the name and lilac photo are in honor of my late mother, who taught me to read and appreciate books at a young age and died twenty years ago this month.
the majority of the lists i’ve curated are sapphic roundups. i’m often frustrated at how many queer/pride lists are primarily white and/or primarily achillean, though obviously i have my own areas for improvement; my lists have more cis stories than trans and are pretty us-centric. i include indie and small press authors as much as i can. i want people who can’t afford to buy new books to use the lists as a resource when they’re putting library books on hold or going to their favorite used bookstore. that’s why there are some cd-rom audiobooks.

i receive a 10% commission for every item purchased through my shop, either from one of my curated lists or through the search bar. this includes preorders and non-book items like puzzles. i will be donating any money i make from palestinian books or authors to the sameer project.
with the exception of a few nonfiction books and many of the books based on my friend keara’s list, i’ve read the books on all of these lists and add to the lists as i finish books.
